Chromy statue

The haunting hooded figure in Prague is labeled “Il Commendatore,” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Some say that the people of Bohemia are born with a violin in their cradle. Artist Anna Chromy was born Mozartian triangle of Salzburg , Vienna and Prague and her art is heavily influenced by music. In the opera, the young nobleman Don Giovanni, after a life of amorous conquests, has three disagreeable encounters: Donna Elvira, whom he has deserted but still follows him; Donna Anna, who in order to escape from a failed seduction kills her father Il Commendatore; and Zerlina, whom he attempts to lure from her fianceé, a peasant. All vow vengeance, but Elvira alone weakens and attempts reconciliation in the hope that Giovanni reforms. His destruction and fall into hell are carried out by the cemetery statue of the Commendatore, who had accepted the libertine's invitation to supper.
