This dominant building stands out among the buildings in the Old Town district of Prague and, indeed can be seen from nearly every corner of the city. Its towers are 80 metres high and are topped by 4 delicate spires. Construction of this church was begun in the 1400s and the church remained under Hussite control until the Roman Catholics got the upper hand. The church was finally completed in 1511. This emblematic building is the protagonist on many a postcard. Interestingly the two spires are not symmetrical. This was meant to represent both the masculine and feminine sides of the world and was characteristic of Gothic architecture.
